The short version
Yarn Words keeps almost nothing about you. You can play the whole game without an account — nothing leaves your device. If you make an account to save your progress across devices, we hold your email and your gameplay stats, and that's it. We don't run ads, we don't use third-party trackers, and we never sell or share your data.
What we collect, and why
- Your gameplay, on your device. Puzzles solved, times, hints used, streaks, and anything you make in the Loom are stored locally in your browser or app. This never leaves your device unless you choose to sign in.
- Your email — only if you sign in. If you choose to “save your yarn” across devices, we use your email to send a six-digit sign-in code, and to sync your progress to your account. If you tick the optional box, we'll also send occasional product news (new puzzles, updates). Nothing else.
- Your progress, if you're signed in. Once you have an account, the same gameplay stats above are synced to our server so they follow you between your phone, the app, and the web.
- Purchases. The Full Collection is sold through Apple's App Store (in the app) or Stripe (on the web). They process the payment — we never see your card details. We only receive confirmation that your purchase went through, so we can unlock your puzzles.
What we don't do
- No advertising networks.
- No third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, and no cross-site tracking.
- No selling, renting, or sharing your personal data with anyone.
Where your data lives
Accounts and synced progress are stored on our own server (hosted on DigitalOcean, in a Postgres database). Sign-in codes and any product-news emails are sent through Resend, our email provider. Payments are handled by Apple and Stripe. Each of these only receives the minimum needed to do its job.
Your choices
- Play anonymously. Skip the account entirely and everything stays on your device.
- Unsubscribe from product news anytime — every email has a one-tap opt-out.
- Delete your account and data. Email us and we'll remove your account and the progress tied to it.
Children
Yarn Words is a general-audience word game (rated 4+). It isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us their email, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and move the “last updated” date above. Material changes will be announced in the app or by email where appropriate.
